Elizabeth Smiley
Elizabeth Smiley was a mock trial competitor at the University of Arizona, where she earned an All-American Award as well as her J.D. She now works at Baron & Budd, a firm specializing in class action suits relating to dangerous pharmaceuticals, Enviromental contamination and more. When she's not trying cases in court, she serves as the executive director of the UCLA Mock Trial program.
Iain Lampert
Dr. Iain Lampert competed with UCLA Mock Trial from 2011-2014, where he helped secure UCLA's 3rd and 4th National Championship along with 2 All-Americans. As a world-renowned leader in mock trial and debate education, he's started public speaking programs in China, the United States, and is now working as the Director of Organizational Development at Modern Brain which offers in-person and online courses around the world.
Brandon Benjamin
Brandon Benjamin is an alum of UCLA Mock Trial, where he led the program's A Team to a top 5 finish in the nation during his time as captain. He is passionate about education and is currently a mock trial instructor and social studies teacher at Vista Charter High School.
Camille Schaefer
Camille Scheafer competed with UCLA Mock Trial from 2018-2022. As a competitor she accumulated a whole lot of hardware, captained UCLA's A Team to a 3rd and 2nd place finish in the country, and was named one of the country's top 16 mock trial attorneys. Camille is passionate about educational policy and is currently a teacher at Argosy Collegiate Charter School as a part of the Teach for America program.
Riley Shapiro
Riley is a recent alum of UCLA Mock Trial, where she competed at the National Tournament for 3 of her 4 years and earned an All-American. She is currently a Data Scientist with AmeriCorps and Step Up, a youth employment program. She's planning on returning to UCLA in 2024 to earn her J.D.
Andrew Moon "Magic"
Andrew is a recent alum of UCLA Mock Trial, where he competed with the A Team as one of the country's top witnesses. He is skilled educator, who's taught mock trial courses, and is currently a middle school teacher.
Cody Smith
Cody Smith competed with Howard's Mock Trial Team, where he led his team to a Top 10 finish in the country, and earned 2 All-American Awards. Cody is a gifted story teller who, fortunately for UCLA Mock, moved back home to Los Angeles in 2022 to become a filmmaker.
Jon "Jfresh" Freshman
Jon is an alum of UCLA Mock Trial, where he specialized in expert witnessing. He is an accomplished mock trial coach, having worked with Stanford and UCLA's mock trial programs. While he's not working with students in the courtroom, he spends his time in the Lab as a molecular biology scientist and is currently a Biomedical PhD candidate at the University of California, San Diego.
Braden Pomerantz
Braden competed with Northwestern's Mock Trial team while he was an undergraduate and is now a graduate student at UCLA's communication department where he studies political communication and non-verbal communication.
Jake Takakjian
Jake is a recent Alum of UCLA Mock Trial, where he was a double threat competitor. He's worked with companies like Trial Partners, Oracle, and now Sony Pictures as a Business Analyst.
Katie Takakjian
Katie is a former UCLA Mock Trial executive board member and competitor. After graduating Katie went on to Stanford Law School where she earned her J.D. She's worked as a law clerk with the United States Attorney's Office, a U.S District Court, and is now an associate at O'Melveny & Myers.
Brandon Hughes
Brandon Hughes is an attorney at Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP, where he specializes in intellectual property and entertainment litigation. As an AMTA competitor, Brandon earned 3 All-Americans and helped UCLA earn their 3rd national title. After graduating, he was awarded AMTA's W.W. Reynoldson Award for his role as a coach of the 2014 national championship winning team. Brandon went on to compete with Berkeley's law school, where he was awarded the Anthony F. Dragonette Award in Civil Trial Practice.
